A research substation was erected Monday night at the Reinfeld junction for the <a href=\"https:\/\/test.ehighway-sh.de\/en\/energy-and-grid-feedback\/\">&#8220;Energy and network feedback&#8221;<\/a> sub-project of the accompanying research. The highway in the direction of L\u00fcbeck was reduced to one lane over a length of approximately 200 meters. The crane work to place the 9 m long and 14 t heavy substation from a heavy-duty truck onto the prepared foundation could be started at about 22.00 hrs. From about 00.00 o&#8217;clock at night the closure was lifted again. In the coming weeks, the research substation will be connected to the existing infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>In railroad technology, the use of rectifiers in substations has long ensured a reliable power supply to overhead lines. By using controlled inverters at the interface to the public electrical grid, unwanted harmonics could be reduced. The research substation will investigate which technology (rectifier \/ inverter) is particularly suitable for eHighways in areas of utility grids with a high share of renewable energy. The Institute of Electrical Power Engineering at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fh-kiel.de\/startseite\/\">Kiel University of Applied Sciences<\/a> is conducting the FESH accompanying research on the topic of energy and grid feedback.
