Deutschlandfunk visits the eHighway Schleswig-Holstein and produces a special on the future of freight transport
REINFELD. On Thursday, March 24, 2022, author Martin Reischke from Deutschlandfunk visited the eHighway test track and the local freight forwarder Bode in Reinfeld to talk with the experts from research and logistics about the future of freight transport in general and about a role of the overhead contact line system for heavy commercial vehicles in it.
In order to meet climate targets, goods must also be transported in a climate-neutral manner as soon as possible. Here, electrified rail is considered the ideal solution. But the rail network is already at capacity and rail freight options are subject to further constraints. In addition to strengthening rail, timely and international approaches to combining and decarbonizing all modes of transport therefore remain necessary.
You can find out more about the challenges and possible solutions for tomorrow’s freight traffic in the Deutschlandfunk feature: “Stau auf der Schiene, wie die Bahn den Güterverkehr ausbauen wollen”.
