RWTH Aachen expands battery-electric DAF truck with pantograph system
GROSS DÖLLN. Research into eHighway technology is not only being carried out in Schleswig-Holstein. Scientists at RWTH Aachen University have been working for some time on the development of a solution that enables the modular construction of pantographs for connection to the overhead line of battery-electric series trucks. As part of the “BEE – BEV Goes eHighway” research project, two DAF XD Electric vehicles were chosen as the battery-electric base vehicles, which were expanded to include the pantograph system.
RWTH Aachen University has now been able to present the battery-electric DAF truck with retrofitted pantograph system and successfully demonstrate it on the test track in Groß Dölln. Now the approval-relevant tests are pending, which should lead the vehicle to road approval. Following this, test drives are planned on the test tracks of the German overhead line projects FESH, ELISA and eWayBW, during which the system’s suitability for use on public roads will be demonstrated.
